On Sunday October 26th, Churchill Downs will host the $200,000 Street Sense Stakes. The Street Sense Stakes is a Road to the Kentucky Derby race, where the winner will get 10 points, 2nd place gets 5, 3rd gets 3, 4th gets 2 and 5th gets 1 point towards winning entry into the 2026 Kentucky Derby.
The Street Sense Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-olds over a distance of 1+1⁄16 miles on the dirt scheduled annually in late October or early November at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The event currently offers a purse of $200,000. Named after the 2007 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense who became the first Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner to capture the Run for the Roses, this 1 1/16-mile test typically attracts well-regarded youngsters from major racing operations. The race’s position on the calendar, during Churchill’s fall meet, makes it an ideal spot for late-developing two-year-olds to gain valuable experience over the Derby surface.
