On Saturday January 6th, Aquaduct Racetrack will host the 154th running of the $150,000 Jerome Stakes. The Jerome Stakes is a Road to the Kentucky Derby race, where the winner will get 10 points, 2nd place gets 5, 3rd gets 3, 4th gets 2 and 5th gets 1 point towards winning entry into the 2024 Kentucky Derby.
Inaugurated in 1866, the Jerome is open to 3-year olds. The purse is currently set at $150,000 at a distance of one mile. Another Kentucky Derby trail prep race, the winner receives ten points towards The Run for the Roses, in hopes to complete their Triple Crown run in the Belmont Stakes. The Jerome has been won by some of the best thoroughbreds racing has ever seen, including Kelso, Bold Ruler, and Tom Fool.
